It is a Christian screenplay competition for any genre of feature film except horror. There are agents at WME. The traditional release time frames have been Easter and the fall, but due to the competitive landscape there has been some date experimentation to try to accommodate all of these faith audience targeted films.
How have things changed for you since joining WTA? As a producer, one of the things I find most interesting about faith-based films is that they are reviving a genre that Hollywood has really abandoned — the venerable drama.
We are essentially playing the part of a script agent without the cost associated with that. We do not provide feedback, notes, grades, or rankings of any kind unless paid for with your entry at the time of entry. We make every effort to help fast track the careers of writers by connecting talent with industry.
As with any content in the creative process, it is best to develop, produce, and distribute what you are most authentically driven to imprint on the world. Is there something special about this segment of the marketplace?
It seems that most of the recent hit films have originated outside of Hollywood and the usual sphere of film financing. Misrepresentation of age, upon discovery, will forfeit entry and fees to the contest. But you miss the personal elements, factual backstory, and real-world situations that are crucial to understanding agents and persuading them to represent you.
I know many filmmakers in Hollywood who would love to explore working on faith-based projects.
There is an element of hope that this community wants to share. We market to a variety of faiths and, as with any marketing plan, the content drives the targeting strategy. Therein lies the rub. Why did it take Hollywood so long to recognize this segment of the marketplace? Please note that only our top two Finalists and Grand Prize Winner will receive industry recognition and prizes.
For example, we recently partnered with Giving Films to help launch their faith and family film label, and they are committed to donating percent of their film profits to charity.
All entries must be the original, and unpublished, un-produced, un-optioned work of the entrant. There are currently agents at CAA. It motivates people to take action and share the message, and this is not your typical Hollywood scenario.
Entries must be received on or before the deadlines and submission fee payment must be made in full at time of the submission. A distinguished group of high net-worth Christian investors supported many of these films with the intention to inspire and entertain.
As we see more talented writers, actors, and filmmakers in this space the likelihood of another crossover hit emerges.
This was the first time that CAA was not owned by its operating principals. Mormons have supported some films with inspirational messaging, but not others, due to inherent theological conflicts. Transitioning to Working Title Agency meant joining a team that was solely focused on the faith-based marketplace.

Ehrenkrook Entertainment, along with many other Christian production companies, does not accept unsolicited screenplays but nevertheless receives countless queries every year.
Misconceptions persist because the agency business is somewhat secretive. There is an element to these films that goes beyond entertainment. A lot of us have overseas clients — I definitely do — and it just continues.

But the acting, dialogue, and story have to ring true with believers and skeptics alike. People have often cited The Blind Side as the holy grail of filmmaking, and they strive to replicate that success. Both have long track records in this field and both are experts at bringing these specialty films into the marketplace.
We were fortunate to oversee several smaller films in the faith space, both limited theatrical and direct-to-video, before joining The WTA Group. Writers retain all rights to their work.
